Dear Parents of In-Coming Sixth Grade Students,

We realize the transition from fifth to sixth grade can present some challenges. Your children will have five different subject teachers this year and as you can expect, the work will be harder. We ask you to check your child’s homework assignment notebook each evening; and that you contact a teacher immediately if you have any concerns or questions.

There are a few general supplies your child should have for each class everyday. These include pencils, blue, black and red pens, a ruler, and colored pencils. Students should also have a good dictionary, thesaurus and pencil sharpener at home. In addition, materials for individual subjects are listed below.

Reading: (Mrs. Moorman)
1. a highlighter
2. Two (2) single subject notebooks – WITHOUT EASY TEAR-OUT PAGES, please
3. I would appreciate donations of any extra age appropriate novels for my library
4. Red, blue, black, and green pens
5. Heavy duty pocket folders for class

Math:
1.
pencils (not mechanical) with erasers
2. 12” ruler
3. One notebook (without tear out pages) for vocabulary and notes
4. Heavy duty folder with 2 pockets (for homework)

Science:
A two-pocket heavy duty folder to be used for homework

Language Arts:
1.
A notebook with pockets
2. Black and white composition book for spelling (Size: 9.75” by 7.5”, at least 100 pages.)

Social Studies:
1. Colored pencils, thin markers and highlighters to be replaced as needed throughout the year
2. Folder
3. One-inch 3-ring binder

Accordion folders are great for organization. PLEASE NO TRAPPER KEEPERS! Also, we find notebooks that have easy tear out pages are the best for neat papers for homework assignments that will be passed in, but are not appropriate for work that needs to last the year. All teachers would appreciate boxes of tissues.

If you are unable to supply these items, please contact the school by August 1st and leave a message for the Sixth Grade Team.

Thank you. We look forward to working with your students. Please visit our Celebration of Finland in the Spotlight.
